More Awesome Prints

It has been awhile since I posted pics of recent escapades with my 3D printer. After working really hard to implement auto-bed leveling using the capacitive sensor, the time-to-print has fallen drastically, increasing the ease of operating the printer. What was once a painstaking series of steps is now automated and simplified.

The first print I’d like to show you is of the awe-inspiring Lockheed F-117 Nighthawk. What-a-machine! I had to print this in two parts, vertically:

Post print, I glued the two parts together:

A line is visible where the two parts meet: not very inspiring, but the final shape of the Nighthawk is true to form.

Next is the realistically demonic Diablo From Hell , which was a very fun print. It printed well without support, although this print made me understand the importance of a part-cooling fan. Notice the out-of-shape jawline:

If you want to look at the positive, take a look at the amazingly articulated musculature. All credit to the original designer, of course, but I’m proud of my 3D printer for replicating it.

More shots of Diablo. There’s a slight gap in the teeth of Diablo’s STL, and even that was replicated:

Testing a different filament, I printed this faceted T-Rex, also from Thingiverse. In early December, I printed these tiny faceted Chistmas tree ornaments which came out beautifully:

And then finally to my most-prized print till date. I printed the Empire State Building, as a Christmas gift to someone:

The Empire State Building print has been the tallest print yet, and I am looking forward to printing more of these. Until then, go read my poems.
